01Overview & history
Mangalia lies in Constanța County at the very south of the Romanian Black Sea coast, around 44 km from Constanța and close to the Bulgarian border. It is the southernmost spa on the coast and, at the same time, an active port town.
Mangalia is built on the site of the ancient Greek city of Callatis, founded in the 6th century BC by colonists from Heraclea Pontica and later Roman. Its archaeological heritage survives today in a museum as well as ancient walls and sites within the town — a rare pairing of spa resort and antiquity.
02Remedies & composition
Mangalia offers a combination of remedies that is unique in Europe: mesothermal (about 25–27 °C) mineral waters rich in sulphur, chloride, sodium and bicarbonate, seawater (total mineralisation around 15.5 g/l), sapropelic healing mud from Lake Techirghiol, and a salty marine bioclimate rich in aerosols.
