01Overview & history
Geoagiu-Băi lies in Hunedoara County, in the Transylvania region, around 5–6 km from the town of Geoagiu at about 350 m altitude. The town is one of the oldest spa resorts in Romania — the Dacians and later the Romans already valued the warm springs.
Its heart is the ancient thermal bath “Germisara”: almost 2,000 years old, laid out on a circular rock terrace about 100 m in diameter in the centre of the town and preserved almost in its original state. Germisara is one of only three Roman thermal basins in ancient Dacia (alongside Aquae near Călan and Herculane) and is on the tentative list of UNESCO World Heritage sites.

The most important remedy of Geoagiu-Băi is its warm thermal and mineral water with temperatures of about 28–33 °C. It is bicarbonate, calcium and magnesium, weakly radioactive and hypotonic, with a total mineralisation of around 1.1–1.4 g/l — a mild, well-tolerated composition.
