01Overview & history
Buziaș lies in Timiș County in the Banat region of western Romania, about 35 km from Timișoara. The town is one of western Romania's leading balneoclimatic resorts, focused on cardiovascular care, and has been known since the 19th century as a heart-and-circulation resort.
Its landmark is the roughly 500 m long covered wooden colonnade in Byzantine style that surrounds the central spa park. It was built in 1875 at the wish of Emperor Franz Joseph for Empress Elisabeth ("Sisi"). Buziaș also had the first mineral-water beach in Europe. Historic villas and the sprawling spa park still define the town's calm, restful character today.
