01Overview & history
Bazna lies in Sibiu County, in the historic region of Transylvania, in the Târnava Highlands (Kokel Highlands) between the rivers Târnava Mare and Târnava Mică. The medieval town of Mediaș is around 17 km away, Sighișoara about 53 km and Sibiu around 72 km. The village itself is a Saxon settlement with a striking fortified church.
Historically, Bazna became famous for the “Bazna salt”, extracted from the strongly mineralised springs. From these iodine and bromine salt waters a spa developed that uses the mineral waters and the healing mud settling in the basins for balneological treatments.
02Remedy & composition
Bazna's central remedies are iodine, bromine and sodium-chloride mineral waters with high total mineralisation (traditionally given as around 17 to 75 g/l), as well as the healing mud (peloid) that settles in the salt basins. This combination forms the basis of the classic cure with salt-water baths, mud packs and movement therapy.

Do you need a medical referral for a cure?
Not for bathing and wellness visits. For medical spa treatments (mud packs on prescription, physiotherapy and electrotherapy, kinesiotherapy) an on-site medical consultation is usual; the spa facilities have their own spa doctors.
When is the best time to visit?
Mainly the warm months from May to September, when the heated salt open-air pool and the outdoor mud and sun treatments are in full use.
How far is the nearest airport?
Sibiu Airport (SBZ) is about 72 km away; Târgu Mureș is a further option. Mediaș is around 17 km away.
