Moneasa
The pearl of the Apuseni Mountains — mesothermal springs and pure mountain air for the nerves, recovery and rheumatism.
At a glance
Moneasa lies in Arad County, in the Crișana/Banat region, at the foot of the Codru-Moma mountains (part of the Western Carpathians/Apuseni) at around 290 m — surrounded by beech and conifer forests. It is known as the “pearl of the Apuseni Mountains” and as one of the places with the purest air in Romania. Two healing factors combine here: mesothermal, oligomineral springs (about 25–32 °C) and a calming, ion-rich thermal-water-backed mountain climate. 01Overview & location
Moneasa lies in western Romania, in Arad County, in the Crișana/Banat region. The small spa nestles at around 290 m at the foot of the Codru-Moma mountains, which belong to the Western Carpathians (Apuseni), and is surrounded by extensive beech and conifer forests. This sheltered valley setting creates a mild, low-wind micro-climate.
Moneasa is known as the “pearl of the Apuseni Mountains”. Thanks to the dense forests and low pollution, it is considered one of the places with the purest air in Romania — a draw that attracted recovery seekers and spa guests early on. Alongside the springs, the Moneasa lake and the caves and waterfalls of the surrounding mountains shape the landscape.
02Remedies & water composition
The healing water of Moneasa rises from mesothermal springs at about 25–32 °C. It is oligomineral and contains mainly magnesium, calcium and sodium. A second, independent healing factor is the calming, ion-rich (negatively ionised) sub-alpine mountain climate — the combined effect of gentle spring temperatures and pure forest air gives the place its distinctive character.
