01Overview & history
Călimănești-Căciulata lies in Vâlcea County, in the Wallachia region (Oltenia), in the valley of the river Olt at the foot of the Cozia mountains. The town is a year-round spa of international reputation with a therapeutically favourable climate — sheltered between the mountains and the river.
The healing springs have been used systematically since the 19th century and made Călimănești-Căciulata one of Romania's best-known spas early on. Right on the Olt stands Cozia Monastery from the 14th century (1387/88), surrounded by the Cozia National Park and the impressive Olt gorge — one of the most beautiful landscapes in the country.
02Remedy & water composition
Călimănești-Căciulata has more than 30 mineral springs of varying composition — sulphurous, chloride-sodium, calcium and bicarbonate, cold and thermal. Some come from boreholes more than 1,200 m deep. The most important form of cure is the drinking cure directly at the spring, usually three times a day before meals over at least 10 to 14 days.
